Veteran Actor Shanmugasundaram Passes Away

Veteran actor Shanmugasundaram, who has appeared in many Tamil movies and television serials, passed away this morning due to prolonged illness.

After starting out as a junior artist in dramas, he went on to perform in theatre. He then made his film acting debut in 1963 in the Sivaji Ganesan starrer Ratha Thilagam after which he went on to land supporting roles in Karnan in 1964.

Shanmugasundaram's most famous role till date is no doubt as actress Kanaga's father in the 1989 blockbuster Karagattakaran. Subsequently, he landed roles later in numerous notable films namely Singaravelan, Pangali, Nee Varuvai Ena, Shahjahan, Thamizh Padam, Kalakalappu, Nanban among others.

He also had a successful association with director Venkat Prabhu as he starred in his films such as Chennai 600028, Saroja, Goa, Biriyani, Massu Engira Masilamani and Chennai 600028 II: Second Innings.  His last starring role was in Simbu's Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan which came out last month.

Celebrities upon hearing about Shanmugasundaram's death took to twitter to pay their condolences.
