Chennai 600028 II: 2nd Innings - The Boys Are Back in Style!
REVIEW
The boys are back. Venkat Prabhu with his team is returning with Chennai 600028 II: 2nd Innings, which is releasing in India on 9 December. Mirchi Siva, Nithin Sathya, Jai, Akash Arvind, Vijay Vasanth, Vijayalakshmi and Premgi and others are in the key roles in the flick.
Rajesh Yadav has handled the cinematography and Praveen KL has edited the movie, which is a sequel to 2007 hit film Chennai 600028. Yuvan Shankar Raja has composed the music for the Venkat Prabhu-directorial and 'Nee Kidaithai,' 'Soppana Sundari' and 'Boys Are Back' songs from the movie have garnered good reviews.
The first instalment was an unexpected hit that became a dream directorial debut for Venkat Prabhu. The movie had focussed on street cricket and blended the coming-of-age sports film with friendship and rivalry.
STORY
The story revolves around lives of the boys who have become men now, married, gotten jobs for themselves. As the previous version of the movie says, cricket and friendship will continue to be the core plot of this sequel. Ten years later, they are back. The boys are back and they are back in style!
PERFORMANCE
Venkat Prabhu is best when it comes to using some of the nostalgic moments in a best way. Here again, be it the dance choreography in ‘Soppana Sundari’, that ‘bowling or fielding ah’ comedy, he has perfectly infused some of his best previous film moments adequately to boost the proceedings.
The first part had an ideal blend of cricket, sentiment, love, friendship and a seesaw battle with the rivals and nothing looked force-fitted. But here, we feel there is a slight compromise with the overall script to make it more edgy for neutral audience to enjoy. To make the game more interesting, VP had given an added weightage to the opponent which leads to a more intense battle. The way cricket is linked to the proceedings in the second half looks interesting and enjoyable.
Yuvan's songs and BGM becomes a key role in the flick. Though songs like ‘House Party’ seems at wrong place or a kind of speed breaker to the flow. Yuvan's songs and BGM becomes a key role in the flick. Though songs like ‘House Party’ seems at wrong place or a kind of speed breaker to the flow.
