Three friends are having different dreams in their life but things are not working out as per their wish. Now they have to choose their path between good and bad, reality and dream. Whether they are going to succeed or not? That’s all about Dharani for you…

Plot

Kathiresan, Sekaran and Mahesh (Aari) are friends. As said earlier all are having their own problems. While Kathiresan is facing a love failure, he is jobless and his lover turns down him for that particular reason, Sekar is facing a financial problem that he couldn’t clear the debt he got from a cold blooded loan lender and Mahesh is having dream-reality problem, he wants to be become a film maker but life offers everyone a different thing. Mahesh become a folk artist, Sekar beats the dangerous money lender and now a thud under local MLA while Kathiresan is a swindler in real estate.

Performance

Aari has given a fabulous performance in the film and it is  his praise worthy job after Nedunchalai. Kumaravel has also given an adequate performance so does Ajay Krishna. In fact, the biggest strength of Dharani is the performances of lead actors which are phenomenal. Even the director has extracted some good work from the other artists in the film which is laudable.

Analysis

Though the storyline is good and performances of the lead actors are phenomenal, the drawback of Dharani is that the film too cliché and even the motive of the characters are highly familiar ie., predictable in most part of the film, especially the first half of the film has literally tests our patience that we can’t sit through.

Sigh of a relief is that the second half moves with a good pace but again there is no big surprise or twist in the film. Any normal moviegoer could predict the way the film is going to end.

Technicalities

As the film was in cans for a long time, one could say the cinematography, music and editing looks dull that one can say it is an outdated movie. Thankfully, the running time 147 minutes which is somewhat bearable but still the film requires a lot of trimming.

Bottom Line

Watch Dharani for its message and underlying thoughts but as a film it falls short in execution, writing and what not?
