Irumbu Kuthirai - This race fails to thrill

The first look teaser gave a clear impression that Irumbu Kuthirai is going to be something more on the lines of Dhoom and Fast & Furious franchise. Of course, Tamil cinema didn’t have such racy thrillers and Irumbu Kuthirai was expected to be a pioneer of this zone. Debutant Yuvaraj has caught hold of this theme and tries to grab our attention. The film stars Atharvaa and Johnny Tri Nguyen as the most devilish bikers and Priya Anand play the former’s love interest. Produced by AGS Entertainment, the film has musical score by GV Prakash. Raai Laxmi, Jagan, Alisha Abdullah, Devadarshini, Manobala and Lollu Sabha Swaminathan are seen performing important roles.

Story

Set in backdrops of Pondicherry, Irumbu Kuthirai is about Prithvi (Atharvaa) who does his CA course and part time at Pizzeria. He is always Rules Ramanujam and doesn’t miss to follow the road rules. Oops! A bad formula for a Pizza delivery boy and he falls in love on an occasion with a beautiful girl (Priya Anand), daughter of French Ambassador. On an unexpected turn, she gets kidnapped by a dangerous biker (Johnny Tri Nguyen) and his team. What’s the actual drama behind this abduction is something you will have watch over the screens.

Acting

When it comes to performance, there is something nothing can be blamed on actors. They have no perfect job to do here with the writing turning out to be unconvincing. The dialogues, narration and nothing seem to be really unconvincing except the last 10 minutes of race. Atharvaa tries to express his innocence in few scenes and Priya Anand with her oomph factors sizzles in many places. Raai Laxmi is simply used for glamour and Alisha Abdullah being a real life race is wasted to core. Johnny Tri Nguyen is fantastic.

Technical

Cinematography is top-notch, especially during the final race sequence. Editing is sleek and it has helped a lot to save the ship from sinking in many places.

Minus

Musical score by GV Prakash lacks the punch and even the background score is below average. Director has managed to keep the audiences engaged with the bloopers of this film that occur during the final credits, but fails to impress us for the complete show.

Verdict : This race fails to thrill

Stars : 1.5/5
