Kabali - This is Rajini Movie that's all..

A BACKGROUND UPDATE

When Tamil film Attakathi released to good reviews, everyone wondered who the new director was. With his second film, Madras, Pa Ranjith established himself as a storyteller given to raw and realistic portrayals. Even Rajinikanth himself called Ranjith up and praised his work.

It was one of those treasured moments, thought Ranjith, who then moved on with his life. So it came as a surprise when Soundarya, Rajinikanth’s youngest daughter, called Ranjith up to say that her father wanted to work with him. He pitched two ideas to Rajinikanth — one, a gangster film set in Malaysia; the second was a supernatural thriller.

Rajinikanth preferred the first story. Ranjith started working on the script and Kabali got rolling.

Rajinikanth’s last two releases, Kochadiyaan and Lingaa, were box-office disasters. Nonetheless, fans and critics are anxiously awaiting the release of Kabali. The UAE is one of the first countries to screen the film, with shows starting just after 6pm on July 21.

“But this is not a regular cliched Rajinikanth film. There is a difference between the real Rajinikanth and his screen image,” says Ranjith. “I wanted to bring the real Rajinikanth into the story.”

Kabali is a story about the lives of Tamil plantation workers in Malaysia and it goes back to the 1990s. Rajinikanth plays Kabaleeswaran, who took up the cause of Tamilian workers being oppressed in a foreign land.

“It was while assisting Venkat Prabhu on the set of Goa that I first visited Malaysia,” says the director. “I found it so much like Tamil Nadu with its large Tamilian population. During my interactions with some of them I learnt about their problems in an alien country and how they were being oppressed as plantation workers. I met Tamilians who have been plantation workers for three generations.”

Rajinikanth will be seen in two looks: Firstly, the young Kabali, with Radhika Apte playing his wife; and the older Kabali who returns after spending time in jail. The canvas is large and includes a stellar cast such as Dinesh (of Attakathi fame, who did a phenomenal job in Visaranai), John Vijay, Kalaiyarasan (of Madras fame), Rithvika, Nasser, Dhansika and Kannada actor Kishore.

Noted Taiwanese actor Winston Chao plays the antagonist; award-winning Malaysian stage actor Rosyam Nor also has a major role.

REVIEW

Superstar Rajinikanth's much-awaited flick Kabali is all set for a grand release on July 22nd in worldwide theatres.

Touted to be a mass entertainer, Rajinikanth will be seen portraying the role of Malaysia don. Kabali is directed by Pa Ranjith and features Radhika Apte in the lead role while Taiwanese actor Winston Chao will be seen in a pivotal role.

Kabali trailer and teaser of the movie have received a thunderous response from the audience who are eagerly waiting to watch the movie on the big screens. With the movie release one day away, Kabali tickets have been selling like hot cakes in theatres.

Kabali fever is on major time and this happens only when demigod Rajnikanth’s film is up for release. Holiday has been declared by several companies in Chennai and Bengaluru on July 22 owing to ‘Thalaiva’s’ Kabali release.

This, after news started trickling in early Monday that employees from various companies were planning to go on mass sick leave (or simply switch off their phones) to catch the first day first show of their favorite star’s film.

STORY

Talking about the story the director said, “Before Independence, British took Indians/Tamils to Malaysia as labourers and they were forced to work in rubber factories. In the film, Rajinikanth plays a revolutionist, who fights against the cruelty shown towards Tamils and becomes a don to save his people.”

Meanwhile, someone who has seen "Kabali" in the U.S. has allegedly leaked the introductory scene of Rajinikanth from the film. The 2.01-minute video of the movie has gone viral on WhatsApp.

The video gives hints about Rajinikanth being illiterate in the film and standing up for the cause of Tamils in a foreign land.

PERFORMANCE

Obviously it’s going to be a mass film as it has none other than the superstar.

Umair Sandhu, who is the film critic in the overseas, usually gives his review for each and every film. He has given his review for Kabali film too. According to him, Rajinikanth’s performance is definitely a major highlight of this film. Radhika Apte has given her best. Cinematography work is excellent. Good songs, Sharp & Crispy editing, story and screenplay, Bombastic action sequences are the major highlights. He finally declared Kabali is a Family Entertainer. He has given rating as 4/5!
