Kappal - Above Average

After nearly four years, director Shankar’s S picture has produced a movie and once again the grandeur director has took up his assistant’s film Kappal.

Plot

Vasu (Vaibhav) is a wannabe romeo but his four other friends viz., Karunakaran, Arjunan, Venkat Sundar and Karthik forcefully make him to take a oath that he should not get married. In order to get away from his friends’ sight, Vaibhav tells them a deceiving plan of getting them a job and leaves to Chennai. To his luck, Vaibhav gets a stunning beauty Deepika (Sonam Pajwa). Now Vaibhav has to convince his friends and marry Sonam…

Execution

Director Karthik G Krish proves that he is a former assistant of Shankar by his grandeur film making and incorporates novel ideas in songs and scene conceiving. The vulgar word fight is an out of the box idea while the comic writing is in perfect sync with today’s youth life.Towards the end the film gets affected wit clichéd sentiment sequences, irritating comedy but on the whole Karthik G Krish should be appreciated for his attempt.

Performance

Vaibhav has given a fabulous performance and he has improved a lot from his previous movies. The actor is fully confident and comedy comes to him naturally. Sonam looks alluring and she is equally attractive for being a successful Tamil heroine. As usual VTV Ganesh and Karunakaran have together rocked big time.

Technicalities

Cinematography by Dinesh Krishnan is perfect while music by Natrajan Sankaran is adequate. Editing by Anthony is not up to the mark, especially for the lengthy second half

Bottom Line

To conclude, Kappal has an extra-ordinary first half, average second half and ends with an endearing funny climax.

Verdict : Above Average

Stars : 2/5
