Pattaya Kelappanum Pandiya - Passable show with light-hearted entertainment

There are lots of action based movies with gory violence or the so-called new gen of romantic stories that promotes nothing but glamour and obscenity. Take a break! SP Rajkumar delivers something that might sound or look perfectly tremendous,  but a passable family entertainer titled Pattaya Kelappanum Pandiya that comes with a package of decent humour, emotions and good entertainment.

Story

The story is placed in Pazhani, where we find Vel Pandi (Vidharth) as a bus driver and Muthupandi (Soori) as conductor for the same bus. Most of their days are spent in bus and that’s when Vel comes across a beautiful girl named Kanmani (Manisha Yadav), who works as a nurse travelling by the same bus. When Vel Pandi decides to pitch the marriage proposal to her family after falling in love, he gets to know that her sister is visually challenged and that is the reason behind not falling in love with him. Now Vel Pandi and Muthu embark on their journey to find a good life partner for Kanmani’s sister so that they will have his route cleared.

Performance

Vidharth as usual tries to stick with perfection of what is offered to him. He has given an effortless performance. Manisha Yadav has kept herself away from glamour for the film, but in songs doesn’t miss to expose. Soori is the showstopper here and some of his encounters with Imman Annachi are rib-tickling ones. Ilavarasu and Kovai Sarala appear as the parents of Vidharth and try to offer their dosage of humour.

Plus

SP Rajkumar deserves a pat for not getting indulged in the same stereotypical method of action and glamour, but tries to present a decorous village based family entertainer that will surely attract the family audiences down south, but it is not the apt one for city groups. The film proceeds without any major conflicts nor does it have any twists and turns, which might put down our attention. if not for Soori and Imman Annachi, a major portion of this film would be drenched in boredom.

Minus

As mentioned earlier, the story is simple and is quite watchable. But there are some diminishing factors like many scenes in this film are unwanted for the basic script. It looks like director didn’t have a proper team of writers to make the screenplay more engaging.

On the whole, Pattaya Kelappanum Pandiya is a mediocre with too many distractions in the script. You can perhaps watch it for some interesting elements that includes the comedy tracks of Soori and appreciate SP Rajkumar who earlier made a box office disaster film Sura for his new attempt.

Verdict : Passable show with light-hearted entertainment

Stars : 2/5
