Ponge Ezhu Manohara - Trying too hard to impress

Irfan who made his debut in Vijay TV’s  Kaana Kaanum Kalangal has debuted as a hero with Sundattam. Now, the actor is back with Pongi Ezhu Manohara which was initially scheduled to be released on January 30. Does he succeed this time? Read on to know…

Plot:

Manohara (Irfan) is a wannabe drama artist and his drama troupe head is Mani who is having a legacy of many unsuccessful dramas. Manohara also helps his father who is a milk vendor, mean time there is a back story and in which the protagonist is yearning for his mother whom he has never seen before.  Also, there are two love tracks in the interval; the director equally splits the romance with two heroines Thenmozhi (Archana) and Aanadhi (Arundathi Nair).

While most of the film’s running time is filled with comedies and so called romance, the director tries too hard to surprise us with a heart wrenching climax.

Plus

As you read the plot, it is extremely difficult to find out critically acclaimed moment but there are few positive here and there, one such thing is Singam Puli’s comedy.  Singam Puli’s dialogue delivery and one liners sure to crack us, also he got a wonderful chemistry with Irfan and some of their scenes are well written.

Irfan as an actor has developed himself in dance, comedy and action; in short his performance is adequate for the film. There is a portion, where Singam puli sketches a plan to Irfan so that he can prove his heroism to the leading lady which evokes some good laughter. Cinematography by CJ Rajkumar is a notable attempt and his lighting is perfect.

Minus

The director has contrived many things in the film. Sad climax, romance, songs and many other things are completely artificial, to be precise the film is extremely plodding in the second half and one can’t completely sit through the film.

Also, what is the necessity of mentioning that the film is shot in 90s, seriously there neither an impact nor any importance for the 90s timeline.

Bottom Line

Singam Puli tries to save the film to some extend but the director incorporated sad climax and prolonged second half as main villains.

Verdict : Trying too hard to impress

Stars : 1.5/5
