Thirumanam Enum Nikkah - An interesting screenplay with twisting performances

The expectations on Thirumanam Enum Nikkah is very high as it will be cute actress Nazriya’s last film. With the actress ready to tie the nuptial knot with Faahadh Faasil on August 21st, 2014, this could very well be her last film. And for Jai, who is riding high on success with a string of successes including Engeyum Eppothum, Raja Rani and Vadacurry, Thirumanam Enum Nikkah is sure to bolster his career.

Story:

Jai, in a frenzy to reach Coimbatore due to an urgent work, manages to get a ticket in a false name, which incidentally is a Muslim name Abu Bakker. In the same compartment, Nazriya travels on her friend Ayesha’s ticket. Predictably, both of them fall in love and decide to hide their real name fearing they might be rejected on the basis of religion. Interestingly, both of them belong to the Iyengar community, which they are unaware of. The story is all about what happens when the truth unfolds.

Best:

It is a jolly good entertainer. There is no scope for vulgarity and it is a full length romantic film. These are the best aspects of TEN.

Acting:

Both Jai and Nazriya have got into the skin of their respective characters. The lead stars have converted themselves into their character so much so that we tend to forget their real names halfway through! Likewise, the other actors have also gelled very well with their respective roles. Both Pandiarajan and Mayilsamy, though appearing on the screen for a very short time, manage to capture our attention in a big way.

Technicalities:

The biggest plus of this romantic entertainer is music. Ghibran should be lauded for the wonderful songs; especially Enthaara Enthaara and the director for placing it well in the film. The background score has been done very well indeed and the re-recording is laudable. Loganathan’s camerawork and Kasi Vishwanathan’s editing is a major plus for the film.

Negatives:

It is very confusing why Jai and Nazriya continue to show themselves as Muslims while they know that they both belong to the Iyengar community. This confusion could’ve been avoided by the director with a proper explanation.

Verdict : An interesting screenplay with twisting performances

Stars : 2.5/5
