After his classic Thullatha Manamum Thullum and immediate next Poovelam Un Vasam, Ezhil made an romantic – action movie Deepavali but soon after that he made two back to back rural comedy films Manam Kothi Paravai and Desingu Raja with Sivakarthikeyan and Vimal respectively. Though both the movies didn’t get any positive reviews, they worked in B and C centers. Now , Ezhil has joined hands with Vikram Prabhu for Vellaikara Durai.

Plot

Two friends Pandi(Soori) and Murugan (Vikram Prabhu) borrows money from a wealthy powerful money lender Varadhan (John Vijay) whom they call as Vatti Varadhan. When Pandi and Murugan are planning to invest the money in real estate business, a broker (Vaiyapuri) bamboozled them. Soon they also wrongly dial a number and scolds John Vijay with all kind of sleaze words.When Vikram Prabhu falls in love with Sri Divya who is John Vijay’s bride, things go haywire. Will our hero wins Sri Divya’s heart? 

Execution

Vellaikara Durai is an age old story and the director didn’t try anything new to please the today’s movie goers. Though the film is having big names like Soori, Singam Puli and John Vijay, script work by Ezhil is a big letdown.Also one would have expected a better film from Vikram Prabhu who is always choosy with his movies.

Performance

Vikram Prabhu gives a decent performance Sri Divya is beautiful and John Vijay comes up with his usual stuff. The pick among all the actors is obviously Soori who gives a comic relief in the film.

Technicalties

Imman’s songs are speed breakers while the bgm is decent. The cinematography, editing are strictly average just like the film’s script

Bottom Line

Strictly for die hard Manam Kothi Paravai and Desingu Raja fans….
